    Arthur Crudup ("Big Boy") was an important blues artist and had an impact on rock and roll (Elvis covered some of his works and Bob Dylan testified to his influence on him). And this CD tells us why he was such a key figure. The liner notes say that "During the 40s and early 50s Arthur Crudup was an important name in the blues field"5/5(1).

    There's an irony in the fact that while Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup was hardly a major figure as a bluesman (at best, he qualifies for the second tier), he was indirectly one of the fathers of rock & roll. Rather than his own work, his lingering reputation rests on the fact that Elvis Presley took no less than three of his songs and sculpted them into some of the ur-texts of rock.6/

    Arthur Crudup may well have been Elvis Presley's favorite bluesman. The swivel-hipped rock god recorded no less than three of "Big Boy's" Victor classics during his seminal rockabilly heyday: "That's All Right Mama" (Elvis' Sun debut in ), "So Glad You're Mine," and "My Baby Left Me.".
